Happy New Year. Jan 7, 2009

Hello,
I cannot believe it has been so long since I had sat down at the computer. Christmas and new year has come and gone. I really had a very nice Christmas. New Years eve night I stayed home. My cats do not like the noise from the guns people shot in the air around here and get very frighten.
The police were going around telling everyone not to shot guns on New Years night, BUT, ....

I was off work for two weeks so I did a lot of quilting. My niece Anna came over, she was here from
UC Santa Cruz and guess what, she went into the quilting room and picked out 2 quilts she just had to have. They had to be finished being bound, but after that they are off to Anna.

Road to California Quilt show is coming up soon, But I think I will be here. I still have 2 vaciences in my apartments and just cannot go running out of town until they get rented.
It is very hard to be a tuff landlord. Times are hard and people are loosing their jobs and then you have to go ask a father with 2 children to move out because they had no job, no money to pay the rent.... and no place to go. But its a business, my business income and so not a free home to stay....
Another tenant has her son, her mother 2 kids and a boyfriend and a dog living in an apartment that was rented to her and one child. I have to go over there today and talk to her and she also has no place to send these people. I know this is far from quilting, but what do I do but let it out.
Well. I am going to go get dressed and go to work, until this afternoon and then go see all the people and break the news....
Have a great quilting day

Retreat in Temecula on Friday

Today is Wednesday, December 3, 2008.
Friday morning I get to leave, at last for my 3 days Quilt retreat in Temecula, ca.
I go 2 times a year with Cindy Feagle from Canyon quilters. This is my type of a short vacation. I get a great deal done, see lots of old friends, and generally have a wonderful time.
While I am gone my neighbors take care of my cats. Taco, a girl is the one that has the worst time when I am gone, She misses me so much, when I get home she follows me for days to make sure I will not leave her again. Besides while I am gone they are house bond. That hurts the most. Taco was a cat I found with her cord still attached, left on a door step. I brought her home and bottle feed for for about 4 weeks until she started eating. I always meant to find her a home, but she would not hear of leaving.
When I return I have to start fixing up a rental, work on college finals and generally overload
my plate as I will be ding catch up.
Even still I always remind myself of how blessed that I am to have everything that I do.
So I need to get going and start the day.
I hope to be back and at it on Sunday night. Until then have a great week end.

Hi,
It is Sunday am here in San Diego, Actually about 8:10 , and cold outside. Well cold in San Diego is about 50 degrees. Thanksgiving is past and now we are waiting for the Santa Claus to arrive.

I guess I knew it would be gone fast, but there is always room for hope.
Have you called all your family members who did not come to your gathering for one reason or another?
Next week end I am leaving for 3 days to go to a quilt gathering. It will be nice to see old friends and be able to sit and quilt for 3 wonderful uninterrupted days.
Well it is almost time to leave for Sunday mass. I have to go take a shower and get ready to hit the road.

4 days till Thanksgiving day.

Today is Monday. Only 4 days left until Thanksgiving day. Everyone is gong crazy as usual. The holidays bring out everyones strangest feelings. No one wants to be left out. All the long lost friends you never wanted to see again show up, wanting to spend the holidays with you, ya......So sorry that they have no where to go, but I just cannot take care of them. You may think this is a bad attitude, but It seems like the truth.
I spent almost all day Sunday running around getting ready for the BIG Day. Then I got home and old friends, I use that word loosely, called and wanted to come stay here for the Holiday.. No way.
I guess I am one of the million Americans that could pass on Thursday and it would never faze me. thankfully I am going to go with my good friend Diana to friends house on Thursday.

Now about quilting. I wanted to get into the quilting room yesterday, but never even saw the light of the doors. Today is Monday morning I really have to get going. So I guess I'll be off to the shower.
Have a great day. do not let your Friends bug you to much.

Friday November 20, 2008

Good morning from San Diego, ca.
I actually live in what San Diegoans call East county. It is more open than living in the City and
certainly more lay back. I drive into the city about 20 miles about once a week to visit and maybe take care of things.
I used to live in the city, there was too much action. Life out east is slower. I like slower.
As you may know I have been taking a computer class at Cuyamaca Junior college. The end of the semester is drawing close and I have been very busy trying to get everything finished. Things that seem important one week, or that made you upset one week fade into the past as time goes by. Therefore I try not to get too very upset about something, because I know in a week it will not be important.
I have not had a second to finish binding all those quilts that are suppost to be gifts on Christmas day, they are quilted, the binding is on, now only to sew down the binding.
Well I promised myself that I would be on the road to school by 9:00 am and here is it almost that time and I am still sitting here at the computer.

Have a great quilt day.

Monay Nov 10, 2008

Good morning all Quilters.
Yesterday was my Stash busting day. So I have to send this report to Judy Laquidare at Patchwork times. She will be so proud of me. I got 5 ( Five) quilt tops back from the quilter, all done with my stash, well I did purchase one flannel green backing. I also got all the bindings sewn on, and started hand sewing one down. What progress. Guess how I did it.
I rented 3 Videos, when I came home from church. That was my afternoon. Plus I cooked dinner on the barbeque, stake and veges. That was great. I also did some work on cleaning up the quilting room. What a day of progress. Oh, yes, I also was drinking coffee.
I met Judy last Year at Road to California, she is as nice in person as you would think. I just wish I had as must energy as she seems to have.

Today I have to get back to life and go to work. Work does always get in the way of quilting. But, the bills do seem to come around every 30 days so that is that!

I do have one picture I'll post for all of you to see. I live east of San Diego in Spring Valley, Ca. It was raining yesterday and the cats were insidie. The favorite bed is the one looking out the window. It really is taco's bed.
She is called taco because the very first thing she does when she goes outside is rolls herself around on the ground. Like a rolled taco....So I call her taco cat.
Yesterday Cosmo the big black male cat wanted to be in her bed also, so they both got in the window bed and stayed there for a few hours watching the wind and rain.
Well that is all my progress for now.

Have a great Monday

The Day After Nov 5, 08

Hello,
I have not been around for some time. As you know I have been attending Cuyamaca JR. College.
Having to be at school 3 days a week and them spending time studying at home has taken its tole....
not to mention time I could of been doing my most favorite thing... quilting.
I did get 4 quilts back from the quilter, I need to take a few minutes to get them up for everyone to see.
I also turned in 3 others to get quilted.
Well the big news: We now have a new United States President. The First Black man will now be faced with setting history. Every eye in the World will be watching him for the next 4 years.
Good Luck to Mr. elect.
Prop 8 is going strongly to Yes................meaning that marriage is between a Man and a Woman.....
no matter what side you are on that was a very hard fought prop.
I have to get ready to go to work. I'll try to check in more often.
Have a great day.

Monday October 13, 2008

San Diego is cold, well cold for me. I woke up and actually had to put on a robe. It is 54 degrees outside right now. My poor cats do not even want to go outside. I usually get up in the morning and open the door and they run out. Today they are still in there beds sleeping and waiting for it to warn up.
Yesterday I stayed in my quilting room and tried to clean house. That is a process all by itself. I have been sewing since 7Th grade. Last year I gave away a large amount of material that I knew I just would never use. Since then I have been going through the material and taking it to groups that might actually use it.
In the afternoon I started working on an applique quilt that a girl at work and I are doing together.
Well she and I are both doing the same pattern. When finished they both will look different.
I finished 2 blocks and cut out the freezer paper for 2 more. I am going to post a picture of the two blocks I did. I never follow a patterns exactly I always make it my own in one way or another.
So that is my first 2 blocks. Sharon and I are trying to do one block a week. With that schedule we should be done with this quilt in a few months. I'll keep you posted.
Here is a link to different applique methods. http://www.qorsite.com/begin/applique.htm.
I am using the freeze paper method.

Well I have to go visit the dentist today in hill crest. That is a section of San Diego that is located in Central San Diego. After that I have to go to do chores around the city. I try to do everything when I am in a area so that I do not have to make numerous trips back and forth. I live in the east county area of San Diego and it take me about 20 minutes to drive in if there is not alot of traffic.
Oh........one other tip bit of information. I already have 5 rescued cats. They all had some medical problems and could not go to the humane society as they would be put down. I have taken care of them and they all get alone well. That was until Oct 3 rd. Someone brought me another cat, which I foolishly took in, The person forgot to mention that this new cat had only lived in a house by herself and was not used to other cats. In fact hates other cats. I am having to keep Tulip in my bedroom by herself for her protection. She is a year old and has all her shots. Tulip plays great by herself and really should be in a home all by herself. She would do fine. I can only let her out of the bedroom when the other cats have gone outside.
I tried to talk to the person that brought
tulip to me about trying to find her another home, but of course no deal. So I am trying to find a new home for a single cat. I'll post a picture of her soon.
Have a great day.

October 10, 2008

Hi,
That is what I need today after watching the market. A good hello. Like many other fellow Americans I feel unable to believe what is happening to my life savings. So it is hard to go sit down and think about quilting.
This is the last thing that I have worked on and it has been on the design wall for over a month.
I went the dentist and now have to go back for more that what I want to go for.
The only really good news it that yesterday I went to visit a family friend Vivian, She was my mothers secretary during the war, WW2
in 1946. Vivian and I have been friends all my life. Yesterday when I that there she told me she was 90 years old now. I believe because she has always eaten a good healthy diet, at 90 years old, her hair is still brown with very few grays in it. I asked her grand daughter if she put color in her hair and iris said no way.
Vivian still can sit down and have a normal conversation also, what a woman.
Beware of friends and Strangers bearing gifts...... Hard times bring out the worst in people.
All those old sayings are coming out of the wall now for sure.

Nancy.
