December 29, 2009

Good morning Spring Valley, and oh ya the world. Tuesday, the second day of the week and not to hump day yet. I have another ear appointment today. The ear is still clogged up. Along with the washing machine at Chalmers street. That is my Rental in central San Diego.
The good news is that the Lemon tree is loaded with lemons, Which my friend Gretchen will love.
I do not use chemicals on the tree so I guess they are organic.
When I cleaned up my guest room which is also the quilt storage room, I notice that I have a bunch of quilts that need binding. so i have started doing those. That will keep me busy for months to come.
I still have not won the California lottery so I guess I'll have to continue working hard on all stuff I have to do.
With 71,00 people winning $1.00 amounts and the winning amount being over 120,000,000 million I better not plan on winning.
since I have not been able to exercise for over a month as a result of the ear infection, I find myself getting very sleepy again. It is from the lack of exercise. I often wonder how I ever made it working full time.
Well I have to get dressing so I can sit around and wait for fedex to not show up until who know when.
Have a blessed and wonderful day.

December 27,2009 Sunday

Thank the lord for all his blessing, Christmas is over for another year. I swear I am going to start a collection of presents all through the year. There for by the time Christmas rolls around I can go shopping in my closet. Christmas is so busy and there are always so many comments I just start to go nuts, like everyone else.
Friday I went and bought Bird seed for the wild birds in the back yard. I could fill up the bird feeder everyday and that would still not be enough. It is great however to watch the birds feeding happily on the bird feeder. The swoop from the tree to the bird feeder and back to the tree.
About 2 doors over there is a winter collection of wild parrots. They come inland in the winter and stay in a very very tall pine tree. Wild parrots make alot of noise, it is like living in the jungle. Then around March they head back toward the beach communities. There must be over a 100 wild parrots. Sometimes I cut up fresh fruit and place it on this tall parrot feeder stand that I made. the parrots come and eat the fresh fruit, circle make a bunch of noise, that must be their Thank yous.
Around dusk they all return to the tall pine tree and settle in for the night.
I got up this morning and started cleaning the house about 8:00 am. With 2 dogs and 4 cats, vacuuming is something I have to do about ever other day, them mop the floors, then polish the floor and dust.
The house stays looking and smelling nice for about 1 day and I start all over.
This afternoon is my holly day. I get to sit and sew for the rest of the afternoon.
My girl friend Gretchen took pictures of the cats and then fixed they up on her photo shop and here are the results. I am going to send some of these to Costco and have them printed.

Well my floor mop is callig me back to work. Them the sewing machine.
Have a wonderful blessed day.

Christmas Eve

Today is Christmas eve, I am just starting to wrap presents. I went out to get one last present and braved the driving and parking, what a nightmare. I also had to go by the pet store and get wild bird seed for my children in the back yard. When I am out of seed the birds get very cranky
and noisy.
I also called Mr. man he did not answer to wish him happy holidays.. Hearing his voice sent me into another downward spin....for a few hours. It is so hard when 2 people who start off with such a nice friendship end not talking to each other. I guess that is why there is so much despair in relationships. One person is honest and the other not and their friendship ends being fractured.
I came to the final conclusion that he is insidious, which means developing so gradually as to be well established before becoming apparent. waiting for a chance to entrap.... then dissipate.
A while back I complained that quilters should not use their blog to voice their problems in real life, but that is what I use mine for.
Well i have all the Christmas wrap up from the garage so I better get wrapping or I will be at it till tomorrow morning.
As usual Freddie wants to sit in my lap while I am working and thinks as a small doggie that is his right.

I have not had a chance to sew a thing since Christmas has taken over my life with getting all the things done that need to be done by Christmas morning.
Have a great and enchanted Christmas day and may all you dreams and wishes come try.

Sunday Dec 13, 2009

Hi,
It is Sunday morning. Last night I was making mashing potatoes and forgot and put the skins down the garbage disposal and guess what it got clogged up again. So, today after church I get to clean out the U trap. What a joy, Life is supposed to be better after you retire, no worst.... ! It has been raining here in San Diego all week, which I know we need but the dogs and cat are going nuts.
Tacocat especially, she wants to go out and kill, kill, hunt, hunt, kill and is stuck in the house as she hates getting wet feet.. The dogs, Freddie and Ginger also do no want to go out and I have to pick them up and carry them out to do their thing.
Last night I almost finished binding another quilt for a gift for Christmas... That makes about 20 quilts this year. If I sew my way out of the sewing room it should only take me another 20-30 years, unfortunately I will not be around that long, so I am making fabric packs to sell on Ebay of fabric. Lots and lots of Cat fabric.
Well I better get moving along to get on with the day.
Have a great Sunday. Do not get the sink clogged up.

Monday Dec 7th, It is pouring rain. I am numb.... The dogs do not want to go outside because of the rain.
I worked really hard yesterday getting alot of different things done as I knew today it would be raining. The finished putting up more Christmas decorations, put away the boxes the decorations were in. Then I went to the apartment building and cleaned up the yard, empty my trash from this house. Vacuumed and mopped floors here. Cleaned the kitchen, brought wood into the house for the fireplaces. I really worked hard.
I know there are going to be alot of car wrecks today, people in San Diego do not know how to drive. I have to go to the bank to make a deposit and hope that I can make it there and back safely.
I would like to find and outdoor covered area where I can take the dogs to do their stuff. Close to where I live. No ideas come to mind.
I also intend to stay home and finish binding some quilts. Well I have so many plans for the day I had better get busy.

December 6th 2009

Today is Sunday Dec 6th. It has been a month since I split with Mr. Man. I know that I did not do anything wrong. I have had so much time to do things I could not get done with him around because as you know when a man is around you have to entertain them.
After church today I have a long list of things that need to get done before I can go into the Quilt Studio and get to the real work of the day.
It promises to rain tomorrow so I need to go to the apartment building and pick up any trash left there today so that it will not be a muddy mess. I need to take my trash there and empty it, so the cans here will be clean.
Finish put up the Christmas decorations and them start clean up the storage boxes that I keep all that stuff in. The list goes on.
Yesterday I vacuumed the house, mopped the floor, dusted around the house, cleaned the kitchen, and then went and meet Andy my quilter friend. We really have fun talking about quilt ting and since he is married and happy there is no pressure.
Well is is 9:30 so I need to run to get to church. Have a great Sunday and wonderful holiday.
True friends stay by your side through thick and thin, the other ones are just passing by.

Friday Dec 04, 2009

Hello,
Where did the week go? I have been busy all week, but just do not know what I have accomplished.
Everyone else on the block has their Christmas lights up, so Today I guess I have to get on the stick. I also however have to go pick up another quilt from the quilter. I had made this flannel quilt for my man friend, but then we had a parting of the ways, so now it is just another one in the stack waiting to be sold at this years quilt show.
My little dog Freddie is a special dog. I adopted him from the shelter when no one wanted him because he has a problem with his back legs. He is so sweet. At 8:00pm. at night he puts himself into bed. He usually wants me to come along, but if I am busy he just goes up the stairs that my friend across the street gave me and gets under the blankets. He also does not want to get up in the morning until it has warmed up.
All my friends now want to take Freddie home, he is very friendly and loves to kiss.

Have you heard the story about Susan Boyle, the underdog that turned out better than the winner. I have not got her album yet but intend to do so very fast.
well I have to get busy and get going, another day of sewing and oh ya getting those Christmas light up.
Have a great day.

Thanksgiving 2 days to Go.

Hi,
Every have one of those months. Believe me this has been one of those months. If one more thing happens to me bad, I'll turn myself in to the psych ward.
!st. Coffee got spilled on the lap top, it is the one I have been using for months. The lap top got fried, so now I am back to the very old computer. It is full so I can not hardly do anything.
Can not upload pictures from my camera, so my camera is getting loaded up.
I took the lap top to have the memory retrieved,,,,,,$50.00 dollars later.... 2nd the Toyota truck needs a new master brake cylinder that is about another $200,00 out the door.

And the 3rd and final, the worst, the most bad of all, I broke off with my long time man friend who it turns out was just free loading off me....I knew it for a long time, but being a Woman, I keep trying to repair the relationship. Finally I just know it was a waist of time and effort and stopped taking his calls. If not for friends who have been supportive, as you know Braking up is hard to do. I had made him a wonderful Christmas quilt, but think it would be better to hold onto it. The other worst thing is he works in the same neighborhood where i live and I keep running into him. Each time I do it is like a fresh stab in the heart.
As I look back now I know there were warning signs that it was not good.... But I did not pay attention to them. It is very hard when you have to admit that your feelings have gotten trampled, stomped on and just hurt by a person who you through was your great friend who was not your great friend at all. Now I have to continue to live here and run into Mr. Man and see him even if I try not to.

So now I am waiting for Black Friday to go looking for another computer. No more Lap tops.
If you want to know if I am depressed the answer is YES... But I have been staying home and getting alot of sewing done, which is he result of not feeling like going anywhere.
Today after I go swim I am gong to clean floors.
I finished 2 Cowboys quilts. Both are very desirable and my friends have requested them. However, I am keeping my cowboy quilts for the spring sale at one of the local Quilt shops.
I know in the past I have complained about other people using their quilting blog to voice their problems, But it makes me feel better to have a place to post my dismay.
Relationships are hard and take constant work and communication. If one partner stops communicating that friendship fails and is fractured. I know I'll be fine in time, it is just how long...?
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and Holiday season.

Friday Nov 13, 2009 The long cowboy quilt

Remember I was working on the Cowboy scrap quilt. I just keep making cowboy blocks and more cowboy blocks, Now the quilt is so long I have to go back and remove some rolls. I think there are enough rolls to split it into 2 cowboy quilts. I'll do one for a girl and one for a boy.
I plan on selling the quilt on Etsy or EBay. Then there is always the Quilt Shows.

I also have to go out and trim the tree in the front yard today. The joys of being a home owner.
I can totally understand why people rent. There is a problem, just call the landlord and have them fix it. Close your eyes to everything else. I could have a full time handyman in this big yard just fixing t hings.

It is really cold here, Winter has hit San Diego. Well our winter when it gets down to 62 degrees, in the morning there are small rain drops. Even the cats do not want to go outside. The dog is in bed under the blankets.

Have a great day. Keep your friends close. Real friends stay by your side.

Tuesday Nov 3, 09

If I could live as good as some other people I know I would: Say

"My personal life may be crowded with small, petty happenings, altogether insignificant. But if I obey Jesus Christ in the seemingly random circumstances of life, they become pinholes through which I see the face of God..." Oswald Chambers...

I have been working really hard trying to clean up the Quilting studio. I actually have been that for a long time. It is insignificant in the world of everyone else problems. Often something that seems so large a problem to one person is nothing to the rest of us.
You cannot even image the fabric that I have found that I bought at some time in my life that I through I would want to do something with. Addicted to fabric, that is the only way to explain it.
All quilters need to go to a clinic for the addiction. Maybe that is what I should do start a quilters clinic.

Sunday November 1, 2009

Holly Baloney,
Time just flies by when you are having such a great time with life. It has been 2 entire weeks and this is the first time I have sat down and looked at my blog. What have I been doing?
I started back working for the Quilting shop in San Diego. Whoever said "you cannot go home" knew what they were saying.
I have also been on a UFO train and it just will not stop to let me off. I have been wanting to finish up projects for along time. So I have been doing just that. NO New Projects! until a major amount of the unfinished ones are done.
I need a house keeper and a cook so all I have to do is sew, volunteer at the Animal Shelter and go work at the Quilt shop. I work Tuesday and Thursday at the shop. Mondays and Wednesdays at the Animal Shelter, Friday I try to clean house, Saturday I spend with friends, Sunday is church....
and somewhere in between all that sew.....my greatest joy. OH also I need time to play with my dogs and cats.....I have dreams of the future when we will be able to buy a robot double to help us do things and then everyone will have more time.... dream on. How about a assistant...
they can go work, do the animal shelter thing..cook and clean.

Remember I have been swimming for months, well guess what, in addition to dropping lbs, I have also dropped sizes, 1 in the pants department and 2 in the shirt size.
That means all the work feels great.
Well I need to run along. Have a great day.

Monday Sept 14, 2009

Hi,
I have been on a mission to finish all my UFO'S as you already know. However, this weekend I went to a quilt shop, and since I want to finish UFO'S I have told myself no more fabric. I know quilters are addicted to fabric, i know some, not me quilters steal from quits shops. It is part of the fabric addition. Well anyway I did not, did not buy one piece of fabric, no thread, nothing, just looked. Wednesday night is the start of the San Diego Quilt show. I am not taking any credit cards with me. I just want to go look at quilts. This is the second year in a row that i have not put a single item in the quilt show. One year I put in 13 quilts. That was because the called me and said they did not have enough quilt to hang, then on the last day they got too many.
I have been swimming everyday at the Joan Kroc center in San diego, However this morning I over sleep. So not that it is 10:00 I have to get busy with other things. I'll try to go later and see if that works out.
I have one UFO on the design wall which is at a stand still. I really need to get in there today and take a look at it and finish.
Many many acts of love, and kindness, for they set the soul of fire and make it gentle.
Have a great day. Go sew.

Sept 7, 2009 Labor Day

Hi, I am still around, but have been extremely busy with everything. I started working on cleaning my side yard, one day when it was overcast and not so hot. That laste about a week (5 Days). however as all good things come to an end, so did the overcast and then it was back to over 100 degrees in Spring Valley. I am about 15- 20 miles in from the coast of San Diego, so it gets hot out here. When it got so hot we started taking everything out of my kitchen and cleaning it, that was good for a few days until we found a ant nest under the kitchen cabinets and had to wait for the pest control to come and take care of it. So I had beed doing things around the house to stay cool.
Then I made a mistake that I had said many years ago I would never do again. I loaned a "Friend" some money..... Big, Big mistake, that started a 2 week war, he understood, I do not know how, that instead of paying me back in money I would let him come over and work it off...... NO!...but in the end to keep peace I had to go with that. Sometimes I think it would actually be better to live on a island all by myself and take my quilting material and just go quilt and sew and garden and play with my pets and be happy.
Today Monday Labor Day I am having friends, other friends over to dinner, everyone is bringing something so I do not have to cook all, and promises to be fun.

Oh I forgot I started swimming again to relieve the stress from the argument about the money.
After I started swimming 2 of my girlfriends joined in so that is one nice thing.
I have to go get the patio cleaned up before it gets to hot.For the BBQ, I made shreaded pork.... uhm good.
I'll be back again. sooner that later I hope.

Saturday August 15, 2009 No sewing machine

Hi,
This has been a real month for breaking sewing machines. First the Pfaff machine broke, so I got out an old Viking machine, it was doing fine and then it just stopped working. Feather weight next, it will not sew. So today on Saturday I have to go to Centeral Sewing in El Cajon with all the machines and see if they can fix one of them. I really do not want to buy a new machine, but after 10 years I guess I am forced to do that. The thing is I have the first Singer machine I ever got when I was in my 20's and it still works. It did not have any computer parts in it and it still works fine, 42 years later. I made prm dresses on that machine, I made cloths for my niece on that machine. I re covered chairs with that machine, made curtains, and hundreds of other things and it never broke.... these computer machines I think are programed to brake after so much use.

My sister told me to just sell all my fabric and go on a trip. That surely would save me alot of money, becuase without a machine, i would not spend money on fabric.
Paris is always nice at this time of year, the students are heading home for classes and things are settling down. I would get a friend to come stay in my home with my pets, and take care of them.
Well lots to think about.
I think i'll go to the beauty shop today and ponder what to do next.
Have a great day.

Monday august 3, 2009. 2 Miracles in one week end

This week end was extremely busy. It started with my friend calling me and telling me Doreens husbands, brothers brain cancer simply disappeared after some friends prayed over him. The New York doctors are spinning their heads. They do not know what to say. Jim, that is Doreens husband was called and told now would be a good time to come to New York if he wanted to see his brother again. Jim got there and some friends came to pray over the brother, the next morning the doctors did a "Final Brain scan", and the tumor was gone. No one can believe it..... The doctors showed jim the brain scans that they have been doing and there is the tumor bright as day, but the next morning after everyone prayed over him it is gone, the brain again looks healthy.

If that was not enough to kurl your socks, I have been trying for months to get a good used washing machine for a friend, who lives in Mexico. I see them all the time on Craig's list but never am I the first person to call. This week end I called on a nice looking washing machine, but as usual no luck, so I went about my Sunday. I was coming out of the store with cat food and the phone rang and it was the person I called about the washing machine. She said come get it.
When I got there they gave me a whole bunch of other stuff to send down to Mexico to the church. I AM BLESSED...Wait there is more. Well I guess I'll stop there for now.

Quilting..........I did not do a single bit of sewing this weekend. I was so busy.... Saturday was bust.

OH>>>>>>>>>>Wait. Did I tell you about the claw foot bathtub we fixed up in the garage...?
I do not have a deep bath tub in my home,..........only one of those shallow set in ones that is not like a bath tub at all. I had an old claw foot bath tub in the yard. My friend suggested that we put it in the garage....No one can see into the garage.... and clean it up, which is what I did.
I used a hose from the hot water heater to fill it up with water.......
A Woman needs a Bath Tub...................ITS THE LAW!... That was Friday afternoon, I have taken a bath everyday.. And one of my friends has come over and used my clean bath tub too.
Friday night I sleep like a baby...........the warm water is extremely relaxing.... It was wonderful.

Well it is Monday and I have to get back to working at managing apartments. so i am off to work.
Have a great Monday

Friday July 31,2009

What to blog about, that is the question. I do not chickens, so that is out. I have 5 foster cats, that have decided to stay, so they are not foster cats any longer. I have not have bought anything off eBay for a long time so cannot blog about that, and have not been anywhere for a few months, so I cannot blog about the wonderful expensive hotel I will be going to so that I can relax with my husband, because I do not have a husband or boyfriend for that matter.
Quilting blogs used to be about what you are quilting, but that has fallen to the way side to let the quilters talk or tweet about their personal lives. Our life's here in America are so wonderful compared to other places, we should be kissing the ground and saying thank you God.
The Bible tells us not to Lust after our neighbors things, but all the way from the very poorest to the very richest person in America, I hear everyone complaining about their problems. "I wish I had", Give me what you have", If I had her...... I would..." she is so lucky". Luck has nothing to do with it. One person works hard to achieve their goals, and the next does not. End of the STORY!
One person saves for the future and the next does not. The person who does not save comes to the day when he or she says if only I would of not.......................
Negitive...............ism... Can we all try for a little positive......ism?

Wednesday July 29, 2009

I have spent my entire week working on rentals, I know, I know... I am lucky to have rentals to supplement my income, and infact I am very lucky. However a universal problem is tenants reck the rentals. I am sure if the homes were theirs, they would take better care of things. So I and all all landlords are always cleaning up after our tenants.
Ever have a friend who only calls when they need something? I one of those.. or two for that matter... This is my day to wine...........complain..........I have friends I'll call them that, but only comes by when I have something for them, or they want something.... Lately I have just gotten feed up with those people, ...I have just not been home for them to drop by... Do I tell all my other older friends I got fed up. ....Do not be fast to judge on the other hand.... so...........

My dog ginger thinks she is a cat, and follows the cats around the yard like she is one of them.. It is too funny.....
Well enough winning today.

I just stopped at Albertons market, In the meat department they have meat that is marked for Quick sale. It is meat that would be fine to take home and put into your freezer and cook later, but it cannot stay on the racks there so they mark it down. I really made a rack up today....
Hit the Jackpot today.... for $21.14 cents I got enough meat to last for a month, and then some
more. I put it into the freezer and will defrost it when I want it. What a deal..!!!!!!! Thanks Albertersons.

Saturday and the TAX Man

Does anyone else have to pay quarterly taxes? I get very upset always have when I heard what my money goes for. Well I guess that is the price of being white in America.... I am free to do pretty much what ever I want to and then I have to pay. Sometime I feel like it like it may be better to be poor in America. Then I could just get all the free handouts.
Well Better cheer up or I may want to CRY!!!!!..........................
I did not get much sewing done this week but now the week end is here and I am off to a hot start!
I still am cleaning my sewing room and have found a bunch of UFO'S so I am finishing those off.
I have been looking for a 10 foot classic Gammill quilting machine, but the small ones are hard to find. All the machines are 12 feet long or 14 feet long. The room I have to it in will only hold a 10 foot machine.

I have always said do not tell a lie, becuase it always comes back to you, as it will.
I have a friend who has not been telling the truth all week and now it has come back to haunt.
I know it was not the truth, so I am just going to wait and see what happens...
Have a great week end... share yourself with your friends.

Thursday July 2, 2009,

Yesterday I got another lesson in hiring people to work on the apartments. I hired a friends son, usually a total NO, NO, which it turned out to be again. On the phone he agreed to work for $15.00 hour, I should of written it down and had him sign it... in the end he said "Oh I only work by the job... At the end of less than 3 hours he wanted $80.00 dollars which equals== $26.00 an hour.
AND he thinks he is coming back again today to finish something which should of been done the first day. I know times are hard, but.... no more.
In my days of doing a job, I agreed on a wage and stuck to it. These young people want everything handed to them...............and THINK that they deserve it. I went to college, got a degree and worked at my profession for 40 years without many problems.

So today I go finish the work that I already paid for and should of been done yesterday.
I did not get a single stitch sewn, not a single floor in the house cleaned, but today is another god given beautiful day and so I'll start fresh.
Coffee is made and it tastes great, the sunrise was wonderful and very colorful so I'll just start over.
The long beach Quilt show starts tomorrow, I think I'll drive up for one day on friday.
Have a great day.

Sunday quilt Run

Sunday after church I went on a 2 store Quilt Run.... First to Memory Lane Quilt shop and saw this great flower quilt that I just had to have. So I bought some of the material, and came home and started cutting and sewing. I needed another project like ............................well you know.
But Nothing like have 45 projects going at one time. The new project is called "Natural Splendor" by Cynthia Coulier. It will look different when I get done, because I will add embroidery designs into the quilt pattern as I always like to change things a little so they look different,

Later in the afternoon I went out into the yard to water and found some cantaloupes growing in in the compost pile and so I have about 5 large ones almost ready to eat. What joy.
Life in the retirement world is different from what I always dreamed. Today I get to go over and fix a shower enclosure. The apartment building is great fun always, never know when there will be a problem. I know it is best not to wine, boo hooo, I am lucky to have what I have.
Well it is almost 8:00 am and I to get running so I can go be an an apartment manager and fix, fix fix. Hopefully this afternoon I can come home and sew..... then tonight at 5:3o i'll be off to Canyon Quilters meeting, where I am the new Membership person.
Have a great day.

Sunday July 19.2009

I woke up this morning and through I would go shopping after church today.........At 1:00pm....Wait it be really hot and the animals will be home in the house and they will want out to go explore.. So I better come home. Guess..... I'll just get ready for Monday.. It is 8:00 am and already hot.... hot.... hot.... hot.... hot.... hot.... hot.... hot.... hot.... hot...., well hot and humid.

Can not go to the beach, over the line it at the beach, cannot go to the Balboa Park. The gay Pride parade is there, So Guess I'll just stay home and sew... OH whoopie another holy day of quilting by myself...I like those the best, just stay home and relax....
I have to go to Wallie Mart for dog food..... guess I'll do that before church.....
I did not get any new fabric this week, but I was thinking about it.
Comic Con will be downtown, San Diego has been invaded. It is always crowed on the week ends.

Comic-Con International
Well better get dressed for the day. If you think of anything to do where there are not 5 million people in San Diego, let me know, The week ends are better off staying put, I guess.

July 15, 2009 Scrappy Squares

This is 1/4 th of the finished quilt.
It will end up on a Queen size bed.
I am hoping for about 2-3 borders. Really I ran out of the dark gold with the leafs on it, so now boarders will make up the difference and add more interest... so I think. This quilt started out as stars, but well here is the almost finished not star quilt.
I went to 3 different quilt store looking for something to go along with this quilt, no luck, so my stash will have to find something.

The air conditioner I bought at Costco this saturday is going back, it just is not powerful enough to make much of a difference, and the amount I paid for it was too much also.
Plus my man friend had a cow, and monkey, and a kitten when I told how much i paid for it.....So if nothing else to keep peace in the house, it gets returned. I hope when I get back peace will again reside in the house....one never knows when you are dealing with men, I often think it is better to not tell the WHOLE truth to men, in the end it work out better and be more peaceful!

Long Beach Quilt show is coming up, but I am staying away.....Do not want to go and end up with more projects.. I am still trying to clean the sewing room. I turned down a winning basket of goodies from a quilt run, just did not want to bring more stuff home, told the shop owner to pick someone else new to quilting who needs stuff.
Well after all my running around town today, I'll be back in the sewing, quilt room, hopefully.....If not I'll let you know.

Smokies gets a forever home

My vet sent me a wonderful woman who adopted smokie. Sue has already made arrangements for smokie to visit Dr. Alice.
My dog ginger seems to be taking it alright that smokie is gone. Ginger gets more attention and more food, so the dog is happy.

Ants has invaded my home, my best attempts at using organic ant killer seems to have failed. Today I guess I'll go out and buy the BLACK FLAG, ant killer. Them i have to totally clean my kitchen, But in the end the ants will be gone....
It has been really hot her in SAN DIEGO, up to the middle 90's, so I have been working in the house and staying cool. Today I have to run around San Diego and get some stuff.
I never can figure out how those people who work outside in the summer can handle the heat, but I guess they get used to it.
I wait until late in the day to do anything outside, or get up at 5:30 and
go outside and do yard stuff until about 9:00 am them it is back inside for me.
The quilt I was working on last week is coming along and hopefully by next week it will appear here for review, in the mean while I have to run along.
Have a great day, stay cool.
Thanks for stopping by

KATS SCRAPIE STARS 7-10-09

SMOKIE

Everyone that I know is trying to tighten their belts, that are already tight. This week I have been trying to stay home and get some projects finished. In doing so I started cleaning my sewing room, where I have come across many, I say many ufo's. Way to many, so I am finishing them up.
This one was a class probably five years ago. A friend of mine lives in a Rv and in the winter it is always cold....this is flannel so I think they will love this,...
He looked at it yesterday and said,"well that is rather nice." Men!
I have been making all my friends quilts for Christmas, I cannot post them as I am sure they would figure out who gets what. So far I have finished 5 quilts, that is almost 1 a month. Since I am staying home trying not to go out shopping, that is working out well.

Smokie is the other thing I have been working on. She was found out at the local college, and brought to me about 10 days old, with her eyes just opened. She could not focus and was hungry and needed help going to the little box. Now she is best friends with my dog ginger a 8 pound Chihuaha dog. Ginger thinks smokie is her baby, and ginger is the best mom. They play together and sleep together and eat together. Ginger lets smokie eat her dinner first and then if there is any left over ginger has dinner.
Well I have to get dressed and go work in my sewing room.
Have a great day.

Thursday July 2, 2009, Family

I cannot believe it is already Thursday. The week is more than half over, half gone.... It just passes like air. I have been sewing away, trying to stay home and not cause problems.
Some of my family members, like one of my sisters, is just nuts...not responsible, not of this world, not with it. I used to be ashamed to let anyone know that she was my family member. However, it is true she actually is. She causes me so much DRAMA, in large letters. A real drama queen....head of the drama queens.
I really cannot tolerate the problems she causes this family..neither can the rest of the family. But there she is. My mother passed 11 years ago and this one sister is still on me all the time. Yesterday I told one of my friends I just wanted to move away where no one could fine me. I have changed my phone numbers, refused to accept mail from her, but here she is. What to do.

I know, I know.... I posted about other blogs writing about personal problems and here I am so consumed with personal problems!..... Darn Things just happen, and sometimes I, not being sin free make mistakes.

Well onto to quilting, has anyone noticed how many machine quilters there are
out there? I have 3 quilts read to quilt and there are about 40 San Diego Quilters who want the job, I could just do it myself but why bother.....? So I have picked this new quilter... He needs the work, when i get it back I'll see how it looks and if I like it, I'll post his name.
I have to go run some things around town, so I'll be back later, hopefully.
Have a great day.

Monday. 6 29 09 Garden Quilt done.

What a week end. Started off Friday night with the lights going off at my friends home..SDG&E, did not get the electrical power back on until 10:30pm. Well, thank goodness we do have power, some places in the world they live by candles.

Also Friday my Pfaff creative 7570 sewing machine's computer broke and Pfaff does not make a new computer board for the machine as it is 10 years old. The thing is I pay close to $2000.00 for that machine. I had expected it would last longer than 10 years. My girl friend has the exact same machine and hers also broke right around 10 years. I went onto the internet and guess what there are a number of other people whose machines has also broke right around 10 years. Does Pfaff program their machines to brake at 10 years of age.. .?
The dealer wanted to sell me another Pfaff, no way. I have
other machines that I am now
using, and will use until they brake. What do you do with a Sewing Machine that does not work and cannot be fixed? Sell it for parts...?
Well Saturday my friend Gretchen came over and I started using my old Viking Sewing Machine, I spend the day with her sewing and end up finishing and ended up finishing another quilt top. Sometime after the beginning of the year I made a plan with myself That I would finish all my UFO's... before I started anything new. So far That is what I have been doing. It is amazing how much fabric I have. I'll never sew myself out of fabric in my life or my next life. However I am trying. Everyone I know is getting Quilts for Christmas yet again!.
San Diego, Ca. is into summer now for sure,.........Yesterday it was 85 degress in Spring Valley, CA. a east county part of San diego it promises to be that again today.

Sunday after church I went Quilt shop hoping, but only spend $12.00. I was such a good girl.
Well have a great quilting day.

Almost 2 months gone by

Today is june 21st, It has almost been 2 months since I have been by to sign in. I have been very busy.
I went to New york with a friend who ended up in the hospital for 7 days, I was suppost to stay with her family and ended up staying with my neice, who I raised, so it ended up that Rosie and I had great alone time together in New York. I got to see the City from a New Yorkers Point of view and went places that tourtists never get to see.
I came home from that 11 day nightmare, and got a bad cought which I still have. The doctor gave me some cought medicine, which makes me feel drunk. So no driving. What a life.
I only good thing, is that my friends continue to take care of me. Your friends make who you are.

I have continued to clean up the home from my ex's trash or rather junk he has left here. Alot goes to the goodwill, some goes to the church to the poor people. I am convinved that Americans have too much junk and extra stuff. If you need a storage to keep things... that you may never rarely use, then just get rid of it now. Someone else who is poor will want and use it.
I give alot of stuff to this church in mexico and they give it to someone who can use it.
The church probably make some money on it,...............But at least it is out of my house.

My fig tree has been in bloom and all my friends come to visit not me but that the fruit on the fig tree. I am thinking of going and buying 2 more fig trees so that I have more firiends..............?
I have one friend who comes ever morning on the way to work to get his Vitiamns, from the fruit on the fig tree, actually I do not really care, it is funny... seeing who gets here first for the morning fig......

I also resused a baby gray calico kitten, she has become ginger's baby. Ginger is my Chihuahua dog. She was also a rescue. When I got her she was so skinny and timit, she would not go near anyone. Now 4 months later she runs the house. All my other cats thinks she is one of the cats.
She plays with all the cats, but the kitten is really her baby.

Well today is sunday and i have to get really to go to church.

April 25, 2009

The recession has caused many people to loose their home, their jobs, and many of our favorite quilt shops have closed. Today April 25, 2009 I am going to the closing of yet another of the closing quilt shops. Quilters Connection in El Cajon Ca. is joining the list of shops closing. The owner Darlene has been a great and wonderful inspiration to me in many of my past projects.
I am sorry to see her go. I'll miss going to visit her, she will still be there in the San Diego area, however one cannot just go drop by her home and say I'm here to visit you. Show me what you have been doing lately, inspire me.
As you may remember I had hand surgery on April 10, 2009 and had had a painful recovery.
Today is 15 days later, and my fingers still hurt. Wednesday I start going to hand therapy
which the doctor said will help, so lets see. 15(Fifteen) days with no sewing.... no cutting, no quilting. I need to go to a quilt withdrawal clinic. Today I was suppost to take a quilt class with Peggy matin.
I would have to be able to use both hands and that I can not do. Peggy Martin is really a great quilt teacher and it is fun to be in her classes, what could be better?
Wel is it almost 8:30 here in San Diego, Ca. So I better get dressed.
Have a wonderful memory making Saturday.

2 days after Left Hand surgery April 12, 2009

Friday April the 10th 2009 I hand my left hand operated on to release a trigger finger. My left ring finger actually. The surgery itself only takes 20 minutes, but you have to get to the hospital
3 hours ahead of time to wait.
Before I left on Thursday My friends and I cooked all day so I would have things all ready to eat.
no one told me how hard other things would be with only one hand. I'll let you figure that one out.

Today is Easter, But with the hand having to be raised upward at all moments, I stayed home.
I did manage to sit and play with the almost finished quilts and sort them out, however. That was fun, I also watched 3 movies, read a bunch of quilt magazines and sat outside for about an hour and just had a nice day.
Today San Diego is nice and clear, but a little on the cold side. I better watch out pretty soon I'll be complaining it is too hot.
Well no pictures from this computer. Have a great day with your family or where ever you may be.

San Diego Quilt Run March 7, 2009

Saturday I spend alot of the day going on the San Diego Quilt run. No, there are not quilts running down the road, as one of my friends described it to me. San Diego Cruisin’ Quilters is a time to visit the quilt shops. You can take 7 days to go to all the shops. Each shop has a gift for you and a chance to win a prize. I went to all the 7 shops in the south San Diego Area.
There was one shop in Chula Vista that was not on the list this year Quilters Choice.
Cathy the owner is great, and I forgot how much I like seeing her. I signed up for a class,
got some great ideas from her, of course bought some material, a magazine and I am going to back back on my next day off and get another book I saw there. She was a life saver to me, she had fresh coffee for the Cruising gals. If you do not remember I love coffee, especially in the late afternoon. We talked about our dogs, my cats, and her husband stopped in for a few minutes.
I really liked my visit there.
This afternoon I took my online final for a computer class I am taking at Cuyamaca college.
I just finished that and decided I better stop in for a minute to get caught up on my blogging.
I am not going to post a picture of the stash I got yesterday. I am trying to use up my stash, if only that is possible. I did start a new stash on the run, so many great deals!...
It is almost 6:00 pm and I have to finish one block to post to Bears in the Farmhouse.
I have to get that done tonight or else I will not be able to get the next step of instructions emailed to me . So with that in mind I have to hurry and get to my sewing machine. No TV for me tonight, Besides I also have to wash some cloths to wear to work tomorrow.

Guess what I just learned how to do the hyperlinks on the blog today, so that is why we finally have them here today. So enjoy the link, try to go visit the shops, stop at the ones you find that are not on the list. Just ask the shops you do go to if there are any other shops in the area that you might visit.... they know... and usually will tell you. You will find interesting places to go.

Remember to thank every shop for their gifts and time. Have a great Sunday.
Hope to hear from you soon

February 25, 2009

Yesterday I started off with one plan and ended doing something totally different. I read MaryQuilts.com blog and found the instructions to the airplaine notebook and after going to the city dump, my sisters house I came home and started making a note. That's not all,
then in the afternoon I went to Barnes and Noble and bought the book Dewey

book jacket The small-town library cat who touched the world

Vicki Myron ; with Bret Witter.

That was a great book for anyone who loves cats.

I read the entire book and finished it. I know my friends will be over to borrow the book, but I think I 'll save it on my special cat book shelf. I'll read it over and over again.
I have to run to work, So later I'll try to write more.

Quilters Cats

Quilters Cats,
Ever notice how so many woman mostly quilters have cats.....? Seems to me like almost every quilters blog that I go to , me included, the woman have cats. I have to admit that i am a sucker,
a real sucker for animals, especially abused ones. That is how I have gotten 5 cats and now a
chihuahua female dog. It is just amazing I do not have more.
Anyway back to quilters women and their cats. I think to have a great cat you have to quilt, because the cats love to sit on your almost finished block and mess them up for you. When you leave town for a few days and come back the cats get mad at you and leave you a nice surprise.
What would like be without a nice surprise under your blankets when you get back from a restful vacation.

Well that is my story for the day. I am still doing half square triangles for the Bears in the farmhouse quilt. 196 square is a lot to do.
Have a great day

The Holly Quilting Day

Hi,
It is Sunday, I call this the Holly Quilting Day. I can stay home all day and sew and do Home Things.
Yesterday, Saturday, I went to El Centro California to see a quilt show it was fun and alot of nice quilts. It is about 125 miles from my house over to El Centro. The show is only every 2 years but for me worth the drive. I get to go down to the desert and have a great time. I always love the desert, and I get to go see a quilt show.
I had a lot if fun. I also have more pictures so If you are interested in seeing more just let me know.
I also had to do homework for a computer class I am taking at Cuyamaca College so I better get to that first so that I can spend the rest of the day quilting.

Feb 20, 2009

Hi,
What a day I had yesterday. I went up to Mission Hills in San Diego. A neighbor who lives next door to my Mothers house wanted to go adopt a new cat. He is 97 years old, but lives in a home by himself. He has an electrical scooter he uses to get around the neighborhood and to the store.
He does not think he is old and certainly does not act old.
Petsmart on Sports arena blvd would not let him adopt a cat because they said he was too old.
so off to the San Diego humane society or Department of Animal Services we went.
I told them right off we were there to take a cat home and if there were any problems about his age I would call the Senior citizens abuse counsel. No Problem. My friend Gene wanted a black and white short haired female cat about 5 years old. We interviewed about 5 cats and finally after 4 hours settled on a cat. He is happy, I was exhausted. the cat got a nice new home with plenty of room to roam. I came home and passed out. I was there from 10:30 am until 4:30 pm and did not get home until after 5:00pm.
My plan to work on the quilt from Judy Laquidara went out the door. By the time I finished making dinner and cleaning up it was after 8:00pm and I went to sleep.
Well that was my day, How was your day?

Step 2 Bears in the Farmhouse

Wednesday 8:18 am
Judy Laquidara e-mailed step 2 of Bears in the Farmhouse out to everyone who send in their fabric choices. Unfortunately I have to go to work today so I will not be able to start until I get home tonight.
Yesterday I took my friend who is 90 years old to Petsmart to adopt this cat. He was first on the list. Petsmart would not let him adopt the cat because they said he was old old....
I told them that they were age discriminating and they said it was their right to decied who they would adopt out their cats to. Older people needs pets and I told them that I would take the cat if my friend could no longer care of it. Still no deal. So tomorrow we are going to the San diego Humane society. I already called them and they said no problem. Gene had a cat, however it passed on and he really misses the company. He still lives in a home in Mission Hills in San diego and family members and friends make sure to see him everyday. His daughter has an apartment there also, so he is well taken care of. I am glad he is able to still live in his owm home.
Gene has a baby grand panio in his Livingroom and plays it everyday.
Well I have to go get ready for another day at the office.
Tomorrow I'll post pictures of my first step.

Fabric Choices

February 17, 2009
I have just finished looking at the fabric choices for Bears in the Farmhouse by Judy Laquidara.. Everyone really picked out some great fabrics and each person has different ideas of how their quit is going to look.
This promises to be a great deal of fun and interested to see how each person"s quilt comes along.
Today we are going to get the first set of instructions on how to begin. i have to go do some things around town and cannot wait to get home and start the quilt.
So I'll post the picture of the first step soon.

Feb 16, 2009

Hi,
It has been
a very busy time for me. After the

Holidays were over I got very busy with life and family. Things are just settling down I am starting an new project with Judy Laquidara from (http://www.patchworktimes.com) Patchwork times. It is her Quilting Along group and promises to be fun.The name of the quilt is "Bears in the Farmhouse".

Judy lives in Missouri. I live in San Diego california, so as I am typing this in California time it is 7:30 pm.. but in Missouri it is around 10:30 pm.

Judy always has really great instructions that are easy to follow and understand.
So there are the colors for the quilt. In the picture above. The fabric is from my stash.. and it is large.
My quilting room is a large room above the 2 car garage and measures about 30 feet by 30 feet.
My family calls the room
"The forbidden room". No one is allowed in the room except quilters. Other people simply do no understand all the fabric and quilts hanging on the walls. I have a set of double door that can be closed so visitors can not see down the hall into the room. So that makes it nice. I am afraid if some of my non quilter friends saw the room they would run out screeming and call 911 and try to get me help. San Diego has a great Mental health facility and I would probably end up there...!
Well my furries(cats) are calling me to the dinner table. It has been raining here in San Diego all day and the kitties want some chicken from the chicken soup I made today in the crock pot. The cats can smell the chicken and just know what it is.
I'll try to write more often.
Have a great evening. Go sew something.
Bye for now
Nancy
